About Divya Chauhan, Co-Founder at it’spleaZure
Divya Chauhan is co-founder of it’spleaZure, an online store for adult products, which aims to help couples add spark to their relationship. She holds an MBA (Marketing) from ICFAI, Dehradhun, and prior to joining the entrepreneurial world, Divya has had stints in strategic research at global brands like Deloitte and Citi. In her free time, she pursues her interest in sports – swimming and follows basketball; if not sports, then her passion for photography keeps her occupied.
When Divya Chauhan disclosed her business idea to friends, family and in-laws, they all went into a state of shock. In fact, they were perturbed. “They thought I had lost it,” recalled Chauhan who cofounded sexual wellness startup itspleaZure in January last year.
Chauhan, of course, can’t blame anybody for those uncomfortable looks and weird reactions. In a country where even talking about the three-letter word sex is still taboo, few takers could be expected for Chauhan’s business ..
In little over a year, itspleaZure has increased its pan-India reach by five times, has seen 50% growth in average ticket size and has tied up with ecommerce brands to expand its consumer base, claimed Chauhan.
What was the first thing you did to get the word out about your startup and how did you measure the effectiveness of this?
Divya Chauhan, “Like most bootstrap startups, we didn’t have many options. So we resorted to the time tested, WoM (word of mouth) by informing our friends about the venture. We followed this up with attending business and social meets and informing the people of our new venture. This really helped as our website traffic increased by 86% in 15 days and the time spent on the website doubled”.
What’s the hardest decision you’ve made so far?
Divya Chauhan, “This is easy. The hardest decision that I’ve made so far was how to tell my parents about my intentions/plan to launch it’spleaZure. But to my surprise, once I explained the concept and the reasoning behind it, they were very supportive”.
What advice do you have for women starting out on their own?
Divya Chauhan, “Don’t be afraid to take risks. Be brave and do whatever you believe in”. If you have an idea that you think can change your own life and that of others for the better, then please don’t hesitate to give it a shot – your best shot!
Can you recommend any organisations or networking groups that have particularly helped you on your journey?
Divya Chauhan, “Zone Startups is one organization that I feel has helped us in our journey as entrepreneurs”.
What does the future hold for you?
Divya Chauhan, “I believe in living in the present, if you do things right now then the future will be as you want it to be…” Of course we have big plans for our venture in and we want to do a lot of things; but living in the present is as important as planning for future.
